The Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2022 introduced a comprehensive EPR framework that affects all entities that use plastic packaging — from FMCG companies to e-commerce players.
Key Requirements
**EPR Registration:** All plastic producers, importers and brand owners with turnover above ₹10 lakh must register on the CPCB EPR portal.
**Recycled Content Mandate:** By FY 2025-26, packaging must incorporate minimum recycled content:
**Collection Targets:** PIBOs must ensure collection and channelization of plastic waste equivalent to their market placements.
Non-Compliance Consequences
The rules provide for stringent penalties including the environment compensation mechanism. CPCB regularly publishes notices to non-compliant entities.
