EPR is an environmental policy approach in which a producer's responsibility for a product is extended to the post-consumer stage of a product's life cycle. Under Indian regulations, PIBOs must ensure the collection, recycling, and safe disposal of their packaging and electronic waste.
PIBO stands for Producer, Importer, and Brand Owner. If your company manufactures, imports, or sells products using plastic packaging, electronics, batteries, or tires in India, you are classified as a PIBO and must comply with CPCB's EPR targets.
Non-compliance with CPCB EPR targets can result in severe penalties, including heavy financial fines, revocation of the Consent to Operate (CTO), sealing of manufacturing premises, and reputational damage. The penalty amount depends on the shortfall in targets.
